John Connolly was born in Dublin and worked as a bartender, local government official and journalist before publishing his first novel, Every Dead Thing, in 1999.  His books have won the Edgar®, Shamus and Anthony awards and a CWA Dagger. He divides his time between Dublin and Portland, Maine and, like Alex, keeps a number of dogs in a remarkable degree of comfort.

The Land of Lost Things , September 19, 2023

In this second in a series after The Book of Lost Things, Phoebe, an eight-year-old girl, lies comatose following a car accident—a body without a spirit. Ceres, her mother, can only sit by her bedside and read aloud the fairy stories Phoebe loves in the hope they might summon her back to this world. But outside on the property grounds, an old house connected to a book written by a vanished author, is calling to Ceres. Something wants her to enter, to journey to a land colored by the memories of childhood, and the folklore beloved of her father—a land of witches and dryads, giants and mandrakes; a land where old enemies are watching and waiting…

Favorite Drink: John’s favorite drink is South African wine.

Favorite Snack: Chorizo in cider or wine. Potato chips are good, too.

Ritu Mukeji was born in Kolkata, India, and raised in the San Francisco Bay area. From a young age, she has been an avid reader of mysteries, from Golden Age crime fiction to police procedurals and the novels of PD James and Ruth Rendell. She received a BA in history from Columbia University and a medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She completed residency training at the University of California, Davis and has been a practicing internist for fifteen years. She lives in Marin County, California, with her husband and three children.

Murder By Degrees, October 17, 2023

Philadelphia, 1875: At the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania, Dr. Lydia Weston, professor and anatomist, is suspicious when the body of her patient, Anna Ward, is dredged out of the Schuylkill River. She doesn’t believe the exemplary young chambermaid’s death is suicide. Aided by a diary filled with cryptic passages of poetry, and her skill at the autopsy table, Lydia draws nearer to a long-hidden terrible secret. But Lydia must act quickly, before she becomes the next target of those who wished to silence Anna.

Favorite Drink: Dr. Lydia Eston’s favorite drink would be a cup of Darjeeling tea.

Favorite Snack: A shortbread biscuit. For those who would like to try their hand at making the latter at home, here’s a recipe.

New York Times bestselling author Brett Battles has written over forty novels, a few novellas, and several short stories. He has been nominated for the Barry Award three times and won Best Thriller in 2009. He has three grown children and lives in southern California with a neurotic Australian Shepherd.

Our own Rogue Alex Kava is the New York Times, USA Today and Amazon bestselling author of twenty-one novels that include the critically acclaimed series featuring K9 handler Ryder Creed and the international bestselling series with FBI profiler Maggie O’Dell. Published in thirty-four countries, her novels have sold seven+ million copies and when she’s not writing, Alex enjoys spending time with her pack of Westies. They are definitely not as well trained as Ryder Creed’s dogs.

Midnight Creed, December 10, 2023

Nothing good happens after midnight. It’s a mantra K9 handler Ryder Creed has stuck to ever since his Marine K9 unit searched for IEDs in Afghanistan. When a boy goes missing in a heavily wooded area of the Florida Panhandle, Creed must put aside his PTSD and navigate the unpredictable risks his dogs will face in the dark. (Available for preorder Oct. 5.)

Favorite Drink: Maggie O’Dell prefers Diet Pepsi.

Favorite Snack: Ryder Creed likes a Myrtle Burger at the Oval Office in Milton, Florida. (A Myrtle burger is 7 oz of beef smothered with grilled onions and topped with melted cheese.)
