A traditional Puerto Rican meat turnover, similar to an empanada but it’s not an empanada. It’s a pastelillo. Recipe by Linda Arceo, available on her website.
Like Isabella’s main character, Daniela “Dani” Vega, Linda is a proud Nuyorican (Puerto Rican in New York City).
She also has some fabulous cocktails, and this is one Dani Vega would approve of. The cool thing about this drink is that it’s red, white, and blue, colors of both the American flag and the Puerto Rican flag:
Red, White and Blue Layered Shot—recipe by Linda Arceo and Captain Morgan
Ingredients
• 0.5 oz. Captain Morgan LocoNut
• 0.5 oz. Grenadine
• 0.5 oz. Blue Curacao
Directions
• Pour Grenadine into a shot glass.
• Slowly pour the Captain Morgan LocoNut over the back of a spoon so it floats on the Grenadine.
• Repeat the process with the Blue Curacao.
