A NEST IN THE ASHES
National Park Service ranger Eric Linenger oversees a “prescribed burn” of 1,000 acres of Rocky Mountain National Park. He knows the controlled fire is a necessity, but his friends at Elk Park Ornithological Chapter are strongly opposed. The burn threatens the habitat of Green-Tailed Towhees and Virginia Warblers. Once lit, the flames quickly spread beyond the intended acreage destroying a real estate development before finally being extinguished. When the body of Eric’s boss is found near the origin of the blaze, it appears as if someone deliberately intended the fire to rage out of control.
DEATH TAKE A GANDER
When U.S. Fish and Wildlife Special Agent Angela Dimato’s partner is found dead from an apparent suicide, Angela finds herself pulled from her regular duties and assigned to oversee a local fishing tournament on Elk Lake. Then a strange die-off of two hundred Canada Geese occurs the night before the tournament kick-off, and Angela discovers a connection to her partner’s death. With the help of the local birdwatchers, Angela sets out to expose a murder and an environmental disaster in the making.
