After taking last month off due to an overcrowded schedule, I’m so excited to be back, picking my May Rogue pick this week, and can’t wait to talk about . . .

Jeffery Deaver’s Final Twist, the latest book in his Colter Shaw series, is absolutely phenomenal. That’s it. Full Stop. Then again, on second thought, this would be a rather short post if I ended it there, so allow me to go a bit deeper and explain why I’m so high on this character and the series Deaver has built around him.

Best known for his #1 New York Times bestselling Lincoln Rhyme franchise, Deaver has been called “the master of ticking-bomb suspense” by People Magazine, a title that fits and has rightfully been earned over the course of a brilliant career. Thing is, I would argue that his latest offering shows off those skills better than just about anything else he’s ever written. I’ll ever go one step further and say that Shaw, who has now headlined three fantastic books, is a more compelling hero than the beloved Rhyme. While that statement might seem near blasphemous to some, I personally find Colter to be a fresh new voice on the thriller scene, and certainly look forward to whatever Deaver has planned next.

Here, in Final Twist, Shaw has recently wrapped up the events seen in The Never Game and The Goodbye Man and now has his sights set on cracking a case that’s been part of his family for years. Following clues left behind by his father, Colter takes aim at a corporate espionage firm he believes may be responsible for upwards of thousands of deaths. However, as the title forecasts, nothing is quite what it seems, and Deaver has more than a few surprises in store for his young protagonist.

Fans of Harlan Coben and Joseph Finder will especially love this one, and while you don’t have to read the first two books in the series to enjoy this one, I highly recommend starting at the beginning because it’s worth experiencing everything this hard-hitting trilogy has to offer.
