Jeffery Deaver is an international number-one bestselling author. His novels have appeared on bestseller lists around the world. His books are sold in 150 countries and translated into twenty-five languages. He has served two terms as president of Mystery Writers of America, and was recently named a Grand Master of MWA, whose ranks include Agatha Christie, Ellery Queen, Mary Higgins Clark and Walter Mosely.

Deaver has been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention, the Strand Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the Raymond Chandler Lifetime Achievement Award in Italy. His book A Maiden’s Grave was made into an HBO movie starring James Garner and Marlee Matlin, and his novel The Bone Collector was a feature release from Universal Pictures, starring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie. Lifetime aired an adaptation of his The Devil’s Teardrop. NBC television recently aired the nine-episode prime-time series, “Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector.”

And he has recently paired with our own Rogue Isabella Maldonado to create the Sanchez & Heron series.

Jake Heron is a hacker, so he stays away from alcohol, though he has champagne (Moet) once a year, on Christmas Eve. Those who have read the book know why. Otherwise, it’s Mountain Dew, jerky and Cheetos (crunchy only).

Jeffery’s favorite drink is a Crown Royal Old Fashioned: Crown Royal, sugar, water, Angostura bitters and an orange slice. His fave snack is water crackers and cheese of any sort—lately, aged Gouda and Drunken Goat (yes, it’s real, and no goats are harmed in the making).

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Isabella Maldonado wore a gun and badge in real life before turning to crime writing. A graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico and the first Latina to attain the rank of captain in the Fairfax County Police Department just outside DC, she retired as the Commander of Special Investigations and Forensics. During more than two decades on the force, her assignments included hostage negotiator, department spokesperson, and precinct commander. She uses her law enforcement background to bring a realistic edge to her writing, which includes the bestselling FBI Special Agent Nina Guerrera series (soon to be a Netflix feature film starring Jennifer Lopez), the award-winning Detective Veranda Cruz series, and the FBI Agent Daniela Vega series. Her books are published in 24 languages.

Carmen’s favorite snack: Pomegranate guacamole with fresh cilantro, minced jalapeno, and chopped red onion—homemade tortilla chips are a must.

Carmen’s favorite drink: Casa del Sol Tequila Anejo (by Eva Longoria)—she drinks it neat!

Fatal Intrusion, September 1, 2024

As a wave of murders grips Southern California, an unlikely pair must untangle the mysterious patterns of an elusive killer. Carmen Sanchez is a tough Homeland Security agent who plays by the rules. But when her sister is attacked in connection to a series of murders across the state, she enlists the aid of Professor Jake Heron, a brilliant and quirky private security expert who, unlike Sanchez, believes rules are merely suggestions. Over the next seventy-two hours, Sanchez and Heron find themselves in the midst of a lethal chess match with the killer as they race to stop the carnage. But as the victims mount, so do the risks.

Yasmin Angoe’s books were an Amazon Best Book of the Month, on a billboard in Times Square, Best Of lists, and recieved a Library Journal Starred Review. The Anthony-nominated Nena Knight series was also optioned for a television series. Yasmin is a first-generation Ghanaian American and, in 2020, received the Eleanor Taylor Bland Award for Emerging Writers of Color from Sisters in Crime. Yasmin is a former English teacher and instructional coach, and lives in South Carolina with her husband and their kids.

Not What She Seems, August 1, 2024

After years of self-exile—due to the death of her police chief father and rumors that she was to blame—Jacinda “Jac” Brodie is back in South Carolina. But the small cliffside town no longer feels like home. Wealthy newcomer Faye Arden has transformed the town and its inhabitants fawn over their charismatic new benefactor. Jac’s convinced something sinister lurks beneath Faye’s perfect exterior. But as she continues to dig, she stumbles upon dangerous truths that put not only her life but also her family’s safety on the line.

Yasmin’s fave snack is chips and white queso, preferably paired with a spiked Arnold Palmer—recipe below!

A passion for adventure drove 6th generation Texan Taylor Moore to a solo journey at the age of twenty-four through the jungles of Bolivia, over the Andes, across the raging Drake Passage on a Russian icebreaker to Antarctica, and eventually to work for the CIA in both analysis and operations. He later consulted for the Department of Defense and now lives in the Texas panhandle with his family.

Cold Trail, September 17, 2024

On leave from the DEA, Garrett Kohl is ready to settle down and build a stable foundation for his family. But that’s easier said than done. Garrett partners with both an old nemesis and his estranged, aloof sister, Grace, to form a new energy company. Then an explosion injures several workers, and Garrett embarks on a winding investigation that uncovers the sinister conspiracy he never expected.

Taylor likes to kick back with an Old Western—see the recipe below!

Recipes

Spiked Arnold Palmer
The more familiar non-alcoholic drink of half lemonade and half sweet tea (because only sweetened tea is served in the South) was named after the famous golfer. My book is set in South Carolina and the town of Summerville, SC (nearby the town in the book) is supposedly where sweet tea was first made.

1/2 c lemonade
1/2 c sweet or unsweetened iced tea (preferably not the store bought bottled teas unless maybe Lipton)
1 1/2 ounces of bourbon or vodka (I like it with bourbon)

Fill a tall glass with ice. Add lemonade, tea, and bourbon and stir well.

Garnish with a slice of lemon or cut pieces of peach, strawberry, or raspberries. Can also use a sprig of fresh mint to complete the look.

Helpful hint: This drink can be made in big batches as well.

Old Western

Ingredients:
3 oz. Still Austin Straight Bourbon Whiskey
0.75 oz. Prickly Ash Bitters
3 dashes Orange Bitters
Orange Peel, for garnish
Set of 2 Crystal Whiskey Tumblers

  1. Add sugar cube to a rocks glass and pour bitters over the cube
  2. Muddle thoroughly
  3. Roll the rocks glass in your hand to ensure the ingredients are combined
  4. Add one large ice cube and then Red Eye Whiskey
  5. Stir once and garnish with an orange peel
  6. Cheers!

Margarita

Put the following ingredients into a shaker and shake for one minute:

3/4 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
1 shot Jose Cuervo especial tequila
1 oz. Grand Marnier
1 cup ice cubes

Take one of the squeezed bits of lime and slide it around the rim of your glass.

Invert the glass so that the dampened rim touches a small plate of coarsely ground salt.

Check to be sure you have a solid white ring around the rim.

Pour the contents of the shaker into the glass.

Garnish with a fresh wedge of lime and serve.
