When this famous author served in the United States Air Force as an intelligence officer, she also served as a squadron commander, a deputy group commander in England, a military assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, as an assistant professor in the English Department at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and as the Chief of Intelligence at Fighter Squadron in Kunsan Air Base in Korea.
She also worked in the Department of Defense’s Intelligence Agency at the Pentagon and reported on live sightings of Vietnam prisoners of war while working in the U.S. embassy in Bangkok.
Her military service garnered several decorations including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the National Reconnaissance Office’s Silver Medal for outstanding contributions to the national defense.
After she retired from military service and began her writing career, she said, “I am grateful every day for the opportunity to re-invent myself in my early forties and pursue my passion. How many people get to do that?”
